Harrison Ford has served on the Board of Conservation International since 1991 and is one of the “flying guardians” of the Riverkeeper, an organization dedicated to identifying and prosecuting polluters in the Hudson River. In 2003, he received the “Lindbergh Prize” for his helicopter patrols over the river. On October 6, 2006, he was honored with the “Jules Verne Spirit of Nature Award” awarded by the Jules Verne Aventures association, for his commitment to protecting the environment. In April 2008, in an advertising spot, he plucked his chest with wax, symbolically denouncing the deforestation of tropical forests. This gesture attracts attention and highlights a critical point in deforestation. Its ecological action is also rewarded by various distinctions, of which the “World Prize of the ecological citizen” of the Faculty of Medicine of Harvard or the “World Prize of ecology” of the International Center for Tropical Ecology, but the most unusual reward remains the baptism of an ant native to Honduras and Belize, under the name of Pheidole harrisonfordi and to a Californian spider, Calponia harrisonfordi, a recognition to his efforts on behalf of the American Museum of Natural History.

En 2003, il reçoit le « Prix Lindbergh » pour ses patrouilles en hélicoptère au-dessus du fleuve. Le 6 octobre 2006, il est honoré du « Jules Verne Spirit of Nature Award » remis par l'association Jules Verne Aventures, pour son engagement pour la protection de l'environnement. En avril 2008, dans un spot publicitaire, il s'épile le torse avec de la cire, pour dénoncer symboliquement la déforestation des forêts tropicales. Ce geste attire l'attention et permet de mettre en lumière un point critique de la déforestation. Son action écologique est aussi récompensée par diverses distinctions, dont le « Prix mondial du citoyen écologique » de la Faculté de médecine de Harvard ou le « Prix mondial d’écologie » du Centre international pour l’écologie tropicale, mais la récompense la plus insolite reste le baptême d'une fourmi native du Honduras et de Belize, sous le nom de Pheidole harrisonfordi et à une araignée californienne, Calponia harrisonfordi, une reconnaissance à ses efforts en faveur du Musée américain d'histoire naturelle.
