L'année suivante, il poursuit dans le genre, mais dans une veine plus orientée action, avec Edge of Tomorrow, de Doug Liman, qui revisite le principe qui régissait déjà la comédie Un jour sans fin. En effet, il y interprète un officier planqué, qui, une fois envoyé sur le front en tuant une sorte d'ennemi particulier, « l'Alpha », se retrouve doté d'un pouvoir de « redémarrage » à un instant T dès qu'il est tué. Ce qui l'amène à revivre sans arrêt la même journée. Les critiques sont excellentes et une suite est annoncée en 2017, après un résultat satisfaisant au box-office international.
